This downtown Chicago waterfront engagement session was the perfect backdrop for this unique love story. Alyssa and Rob first met at work, and what was once a coworking relationship eventually blossomed into something more. They built their relationship and life together in Chicago, but knew they were planning to have their fall 2020 wedding back in their Toledo, Ohio hometown.

Because Chicago holds such a special place in their hearts and in their relationship, they asked me to come to the Windy City to photograph their engagement session and to document just a tiny slice of the city they now call home together. We made sure to include some of their favorite city sights, and planned an evening of adventures through downtown Chicago together.

Chicago definitely delivered on the views. We started their session at the North Avenue Beach waterfront, overlooking the skyline. They danced on the pier together before we walked over to Lincoln Park. This downtown Chicago hotspot boasts a public zoo, lots of green space, and more gorgeous skyline views (are you sensing a theme yet?). Finally, we sprinted back to North Avenue Beach, trying to outrun the sunset. We made it to the beach right before the sun went down. They ended the evening splashing and playing in the waves, soaking up all the last rays of light the summer sunshine had to offer.

We obviously followed up our downtown Chicago waterfront engagement session adventure with some authentic deep dish pizza. Alyssa and Rob made sure my first time in Chicago was a blast. It was a magical evening in every way. We captured both the majesty of the city and the beauty of their love for each other.

So grateful I got to document this darling couple’s sweet love story in their favorite city! I cannot wait to capture even more magic at Alyssa and Rob’s Toledo wedding day this fall.
